The search for the fourth suspect in the fatal shooting of 10-year-old Gracie Griffin came to a close on Wednesday, as 24-year-old Jemerious Davis turned himself in to Cleveland police. Charged with murder, a first-degree felony, Davis's surrender concludes the manhunt led by the U.S. Marshal Service following the tragic July 4 incident. "We put reward money out on him, put his face out there everywhere and he decided to do the right thing today and turn himself in," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott explained in a statement obtained by News 5 Cleveland.
According to court records and a grand jury's indictment, Gracie was killed during a family gathering near West 135th Street and Triskett Road. In connection to the case, three other suspects face various charges, ranging from murder to felonious assault. 28-year-old Juwone Deaver, alongside Davis, allegedly opened fire on a vehicle with several occupants that had briefly left and returned to the party—an account shared by WKYC. Not recognizing the car, shots were fired, mistakenly hitting Gracie. It was concluded by those investigating that the vehicle immediately sped away from the scene.
The other two indicted individuals are 23-year-old Katie McKnight and Ed'Jawon Williams, both charged with obstructing justice. All are due back in court soon for their involvement in the circumstances surrounding Gracie's death. With no further injuries reported, the outcome of this horrific event highlights a moment of senseless violence that took a young girl's life. "As they were shooting, they struck poor 10-year-old Gracie in the head and she lost her life," Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley described the unnecessary loss as quoted by NewsNation.
