Christopher Michael Loza, a fugitive sought by the Ventura County Child Exploitation Task Force, was arraigned in a Los Angeles federal court on Monday, following his arrest in Phoenix on charges related to child exploitation. According to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Loza faces charges including attempted enticement of a minor for illegal sexual activity and possession of child sexual abuse material.
Initially indicted in January 2024, Loza, also known by "ChrisLewd," his online alias, is alleged to to have interacted with an undercover officer, whom he believed was a 15-year-old girl. The indictment includes Loza's messages, one of which inquired about the age of the officer, stating, "How old are u...I’m 45. Is that ok?" He was apprehended after failing to show up for his arraignment on state charges and fleeing, presumed by the Task Force. Loza's capture involved efforts by the Phoenix Police Department and the FBI’s Phoenix Division, which ultimately resulted in him being brought back to Los Angeles for his court date.
The Ventura County Child Exploitation Task Force, which conducted the investigation, includes professionals from various law enforcement agencies such as the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and the FBI’s Ventura Resident Agency. Members of this coalition have focused their efforts on curbing child exploitation and human trafficking, demonstrating commitment through education, enforcement, and partnership between local, state, and federal agencies. The Phoenix Police Department also played a significant role in assisting with the transportation of Loza.
In his initial court appearance on Monday, the government's request to hold Loza in federal custody was granted, and a trial date was set for October 7. If convicted, Loza faces a life sentence as a statutory maximum punishment. This case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
