
Black Canyon City residents experienced a sudden blackout on the evening of Tuesday after a suspected DUI crash disrupted their power supply. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office was notified of a loud crash on Coldwater Road around 8:30 P.M., followed by calls from locals about a power outage. Deputies dispatched to the scene found a late-50s man who had hit mailboxes, and a street sign, and critically damaged a power pole before his car ended up in a ditch, "The damage to the APS pole caused the whole town of Black Canyon City to lose power," reported the YCSO.
The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, is believed to have been impaired by alcohol at the time of the accident. He sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in north Phoenix for treatment. The incident left the entire community in darkness until power was restored by APS crews by 10:30 P.M., it appeared that the driver's lapses in judgment had a more far-reaching impact than just his vehicle.
Damages from the crash are estimated at around $10,000. 12 News stated the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is gearing up to submit criminal charges to the county attorney for review, as the driver faces accountability for his alleged intoxication and its repercussions on public infrastructure and safety.
