A routine traffic stop escalated quickly last week when Constable Mark Herman's deputies attempted to assess a potentially intoxicated driver on Veterans Memorial Drive. Information released by the Constable's Office describes how the driver, identified as Alex Alba, exuded cues that prompted officials to conduct Sobriety Tests which are standardized field procedures designed to evaluate a suspect's level of impairment.
The incident, which occurred on August 17, took an unexpected turn when Alba's passenger, Sandra Barajas, intervened, initially stepping out of the vehicle and then actively interrupting the deputies as they carried out their duties, and this action led to her detention, then when deputies returned to Alba, he showed resistance which subsequently resulted in his arrest.
"They were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. Alex Alba was charged with Resisting Arrest and Sandra Barajas was charged with Interference with Public Duties. They each received $100.00 bonds out of County Court 9," as per the statement by Constable Mark Herman's Facebook post.
