A tense situation unfolded in Monongahela, Washington County, on Wednesday following a vehicular chase and subsequent shots being fired at police. According to a dispatch from Washington County, the events led to a considerable law enforcement presence, including a SWAT team, at the intersection of 3rd Street and Chess Street, as reported by WPXI.
The incident commenced around 8:30 a.m. when a stolen vehicle evaded a traffic stop, resulting in an exchange of gunfire with the police. However, as per Pennsylvania State Police, no one was hit during the shooting. CBS News reported that after losing track of the car briefly, officials located it abandoned.
A man believed to be armed then ran into a residential building, forcing the deployment of a SWAT team to the location. Sources conveyed to CBS News that a flashbang was used to coax the individual out. It was also noted that the man had barricaded himself inside a stranger's home but ultimately allowed the occupants inside to leave unharmed.
By early afternoon, although law enforcement had begun to clear the area, no arrests had been made. A black car with a window shot out, presumed to be the stolen vehicle involved in the incident, was towed from the scene. Officers were dispatched to a nearby funeral home following claims of a person matching the suspect's description entering the premises, but the search did not yield any findings.
