A tragic incident unfolded in Taunton on Thursday when a fire claimed a life on North Walker Street. According to the Taunton Fire Department, the blaze was reported at approximately 3:34 p.m. at 19 North Walker St. Firefighters arrived to the scene to find smoke emerging from a residence and initiated a rapid interior attack.
The incident, which resulted in the death of an adult inside the home, has sparked an investigation. Having been pronounced dead at the scene, this individual's identity remains withheld pending notification of next of kin. It took the fire crews, including Taunton Engines 5, 1, 3, and 4, Ladder 2, and Car 2, around 10 minutes to extinguish the flames, after successfully locating the occupant.
As is standard with fires of this nature that result in a fatality, multiple agencies are involved in trying to piece together the cause of the fire. The investigative effort includes members from the Taunton Police and Fire Departments, the State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
