As construction projects push through the heart of summer, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has reported multiple roadworks set to cause disruptions in the Region 2 area, comprising parts of East and Middle Tennessee. With bridge constructions, road resurfacing, and pedestrian improvement projects on the lineup, commuters are to gear up for a spate of lane closures, detours, and potential delays across various counties.
Starting with Cumberland County, SR-28 (US-127) is under construction for a stretch from just north of I-40 to the vicinity of Potato Farm Road. Driving through the work zone on SR-28, travelers should be ready for grading activities, lane closures, and periodic stoppages. A vital note obtained by TDOT alerts that North Grace Hill Drive is closed off at its juncture with SR-28, with South Grace Hill Drive recommended as an alternate route. The contractor in charge, Jones Bros. Contractors, LLC, ensures flaggers and signs for guidance.
In addition, Whaley Construction, LLC, continues with the erection of a new bridge over the Obed River on SR-1 (US-70), mandating a full closure at the bridge with a suggested detour via Northside Drive. On the resurfacing front, SR-1 between LM 16.29 and LM 28 witnesses micro-surfacing work. For those driving on SR-101, surface refurbishment is ongoing with potential shoulder and lane shutdowns, heading south of SR-282 to SR-1. Pedestrians are not left out, as downtown improvements on SR-28 (Main Street) between Lantana Road and Neecham Street are kicking the shoulder parking out of service. Adams Contracting, LLC, oversees the project as they replace sidewalks and curb ramps.
DeKalb County drivers face grading, drainage, and retaining wall construction along SR-26 (US-70) courtesy of Twin K Construction. Navigating this stretch, motorists should prepare for the closure of Old Liberty Road's West end and heed the detour signs marking the way. In Jackson County, rockfall mitigation efforts by Tim's Tree Service, Inc. have completely closed SR-135 north of Daniel Hill Lane, with a detour in operation.
Putnam County encounters closure as well, with SR-136 seeing grading efforts that bring about temporary lane closures and traffic stoppages. The commutes through SR-111 are hampered due to overnight paving from 7PM to 6AM stretching from Sunday to Thursday. Vulcan Construction Materials, LLC, spearheads this particular project, advising commuters to remain alert during these times. Meanwhile, Region 2 bridge maintenance troops patch up potholes on SR-111 over US-70S, necessitating lane closures starting August 12.
With a cavalcade of construction projects dotted across the region's map, TDOT encourages motorists to practice caution, stay au courant with traffic changes, and respect the provisional traffic setups to aid in keeping congestion to a minimum and safety to a maximum.
