Last night, a 17-year-old was arrested following an attempted armed robbery in Boston's Allston/Brighton neighborhood. According to the Boston Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 11:10 PM at 1383 Commonwealth Avenue, when police were called to address a fight involving a large group where a knife was reportedly seen.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim restraining the suspect, who was quickly handcuffed. The victim had initially intervened on his moped to stop a robbery attempt. Facing a suspect brandishing a knife and threatening violence, the victim managed to disarm the assailant. The confrontation escalated when the suspect, having lost the knife, resorted to using his fists.
The young male, whose name is not being released due to his juvenile status, now faces charges of armed assault with intent to rob. Despite the tense situation and real threat of harm, the victim emerged unscathed and declined medical treatment at the scene. The suspect's attempt to claim what was not his was thwarted by the bravery—or perhaps desperation—of the intended victim, who stood firm against the encroaching tide of lawlessness.
The juvenile is set to be arraigned at Brighton District Court, where he will face the consequences of that night’s failed robbery attempt.
