A 16-year-old girl is currently hospitalized after becoming the unintended victim of a road rage shooting incident in Hillsborough County, as reported by the Sheriff's Office. The episode, which transpired at around 5 p.m. on August 27, involved gunfire between two northbound drivers near 4202 South Falkenburg Road, as per the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office has stated that during the clash one of the drivers discharged a firearm at the other's vehicle and a bullet struck a teenaged female passenger; who is now at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) receiving care for injuries that are not likely to threaten her life, the incident, which is thought to be isolated, did not result in injuries to the drivers.

Detectives from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Gunfire Response Investigations Team are presently investigating the specifics of the altercation, including the number of shots fired and the contentious exchange precipitating the shooting.

Sheriff Chad Chronister remarked on the senselessness of the occurrence, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, "There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital because of a road rage incident," said Chronister on the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office website, highlighting the recklessness of the involved drivers. The one driver's decision to use a firearm has thrust an uninvolved teen into a precarious and unjust position.

As of now, reports indicate the deputies have been conducting interviews with the persons involved and at this point the active investigation continues, with additional information to be released by the Public Affairs Office as it becomes available.
