A late-night police chase through the streets of Parma ended with a teenage suspect in custody in Cleveland. The 17-year-old was arrested after allegedly leading Parma officers in a pursuit involving a vehicle reported as stolen.
The events culminated last Friday when a license plate reader detected the stolen Hyundai Elantra. Caught speeding first on Brookpark Road and then Knollwood Drive, the car held three individuals attempting to elude the police. According to WKYC, to avoid apprehension, the driver navigated the vehicle into oncoming traffic after encountering police-deployed stop sticks at Tiedeman Road and Brookpark Road.
Eventually, as the pursuit spilled into Cleveland, police reported that the stolen car began expelling smoke, signaling a mechanical failure. This mechanical hiccup brought the chase closer to an end as the Hyundai turned onto West 65th Street and careened into a parking lot. In a hasty exit, "The three occupants of the vehicle bailed out of the car as it was still moving," stated by WKYC, ultimately smashing into the porch of a residence on West 65th Street, Parma police detailed in a release. The suspects immediately fled the scene on foot.
After a short foot chase, one of the suspects, a 17-year-old male with an existing warrant for carrying concealed weapons, was apprehended by the authorities. He was taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center, Cleveland 19 conveyed the details of the arrest and subsequent proceedings.
