Two individuals, a teenager, and an adult male, were shot and wounded during an incident that took place on Chicago's Near North Side. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the shooting occurred on Friday in the first block of East Chicago Avenue around 4:45 p.m., where an assailant approached the 16-year-old boy and 23-year-old man and began firing.
The victims were both hit in the arm and were later transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were reported to be in good condition. Following the incident, a person of interest was detained by the Chicago police and a firearm was found at the crime scene.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene with multiple gunshots ringing in the air. "I was on State and Pearson about to get a haircut heard about seven, at first I thought fireworks, but no, they were gunshots," Mitchell Siegel, who lives nearby, told ABC7 Chicago. "Came running over here and that's when all the chaos kind of commenced."
A section of Chicago Avenue was closed for a number of hours between State Street and Wabash Avenue as the police combed through the area. No official charges have yet been filed as the investigation remains active. The person of interest is still being questioned, and, the recovered firearm is being examined as part of the ongoing police efforts.
