
A teenage boy has died following a two-vehicle collision in Scott County. The crash, involving a Ford F-150 and a GMC Sierra pickup, occurred on the evening of August 27 at approximately 7:40 p.m. along 30th Street West, east of Fairbanks Avenue.
According to the Rice County Sheriff's Office, the Ford F-150, driven by 20-year-old Caleb Mulvihill of Lakeville, went to cross the center line and collided with the oncoming GMC Sierra, operated by 16-year-old Hunter Bundy, also of Lakeville. The crash critically injured Mulvihill and Bundy, the latter being transported to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. Sadly, 14-year-old Brantley Ryan McCarty of Cannon Falls, a passenger in the F-150, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement obtained by the official release, Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas expressed his condolences, “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.” The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with no current indication that impairment was a factor. The seat belt use of the involved parties is still unknown.
The response to this tragic event saw multiple law enforcement and emergency services on-site, including the Minnesota State Patrol, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Elko-New Market Rescue, and Northfield Ambulance, to assist promptly. To fully understand the dynamics of the incident, the Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Rice County Sheriff's Office with crash reconstruction.
