
A teenage boy has been pronounced dead after an instance of gun violence in Chicago's Little Village area, according to authorities. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Juan Salgado, was engaging in what should have been the simple act of driving down the 3800 block of West 26th Street around 5 p.m., as detailed by the Chicago Sun-Times. Monday when he was fatally shot.
Reports from the Chicago Sun-Times indicate that the shooter, positioned inside a truck, started to suddenly and inexplicably open fire at Salgado, hitting him in the left shoulder. After being wounded, Salgado was quickly transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. Despite initially being reported in good condition, the youth succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at 8:39 p.m.
As of now, the Chicago Police Department has no one in custody concerning the incident and their Area Four detectives are conducting a vigorous investigation. The untimely death of Salgado adds another somber note to the city's ongoing struggle with gun violence, especially amongst its youthful population.
According to WGN-TV, this tragic event, noting that no suspects have been identified thus far.
