Hillsborough County officials are issuing a heads-up to drivers: Morris Bridge Road is set for a temporary shutdown. The stretch between High Meadow Avenue and Cory Lake Boulevard is succumbing to the whims of the Hillsborough River, which has decided to swell beyond its banks. According to an announcement from county officials, the road closure is slated to kick off on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 8.

The encroaching waters have prompted the county to act swiftly, urging locals to swiftly adapt and to find alternative routes. Detour signs are popping up around the affected area, complementing message boards that caution about the perils of road-water mingling. The closure will stay in effect until the river decides to retreat back to more acceptable levels.

Those who frequently traverse Morris Bridge Road will need to pivot their travel plans as this primary route is temporarily erased from the map of their daily commute.
