Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton is causing a stir in Dallas, having recently issued a warning to the city about the State Fair's gun policy. According to the news release, it is illegal for licensed gun owners to carry their weapons at the fairgrounds, thus the prohibition is more than simply an issue. Paxton argues that since Fair Park, the site of the fair, is owned by the city, anyone who possess a License to Carry (LTC) ought to be permitted to carry firearms there by state law.
The State Fair of Texas, which operates the event at Fair Park during its renowned 24-day spectacular, ruled that firearms are not permitted on the property, which escalated the situation. "Texas law clearly states that license to carry holders may not be prevented from carrying a firearm on property owned or leased by the government unless otherwise prevented by state statute," Paxton pleaded with the Texas Attorney General website.
Paxton is known for his swift actions in defending Second Amendment rights and is ready for a legal battle if Dallas doesn’t adjust its policy. The Texas Attorney General's office reports, he has given the city a 15-day deadline to comply with state law or face a lawsuit.
