An elderly man lost his life after he was struck by a vehicle while walking into traffic on a southside road. The incident occurred just before midnight at the intersection of Southwest Military Drive and South Flores Street, where police say the man, who was initially waiting at a bus stop, for reasons unknown, ended up in the path of oncoming vehicles.

Despite a driver's attempt to swerve out of harm's way, the man was hit by a 2016 White Chevrolet Silverado following close behind, with the first driver not having enough time to stop, according to KENS 5. After the collision, the Silverado's driver stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities during the investigation.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has designated the event as a tragic accident, with further investigations revealing that no impairment was involved on the part of the driver who struck the elderly pedestrian. As stated by News 4 San Antonio, emergency responders endeavored to administer life-saving procedures, however, the man was ultimately pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

As of now, the driver who remained at the scene after the collision is not facing charges, and police have not disclosed further details about the cause of the elderly man's fatal misstep into traffic. No other injuries were reported in connection with this tragic event.
