The incident occurred yesterday afternoon on Rhodes Street, where Balbuena was found with a gunshot wound outside his home. As reported by NECN, he was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead, making this tragedy the city’s sixth homicide of the year.
Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez, expressing his condolences, described the event as "a senseless act of violence." According to a statement obtained by NBC 10 News, Perez said that his "heart goes out to the victim and his family." "It’s extremely sad and no family should ever have to go through that type of loss and experience trauma."
