A Charlotte neighborhood is reeling after a high-speed car crash claimed the life of a local man this past weekend. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that on Friday night, a single-vehicle accident resulted in the death of 34-year-old Pravis Lamont Anderson Jr. in what authorities believe was a speed-related incident with possible impairment.
Law enforcement officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene near the 3600 block of N. Sharon Amity Rd. in the Eastway Division. Sharon Amity Rd. around 11:47 p.m., where they found the wreckage of a 2004 Lexus GX 470 and the driver, Mr. Anderson, unresponsive at a Shell gas station parking lot; he was later pronounced dead at the site. Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with other specialists from the Motor Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search, assembled to scrutinize the cause of the accident, which seemed to unfold after Anderson's failure to heed a red traffic light at the intersection of N. Sharon Amity Rd. and Central Avenue, where he lost control of his vehicle, striking a curb and then a light pole before being ejected from the car due to not wearing his seatbelt.
Authorities are looking into both high speed and possible impairment as key factors in the deadly crash. Anderson's family has been notified of the tragedy. The police have not revealed if other factors were involved, and the case is still under careful investigation by the crash analysis units.
