In a move that redefines mass transit within the Portland area, TriMet has officially completed the expansion of the MAX Red Line to Hillsboro Airport, as well as implementing widespread changes to its bus service infrastructure. As reported by KOIN, the addition of 10 new stations extends the Red Line from Beaverton Transit Center to the Hillsboro Airport, essentially linking two significant travel hubs with a single rail line. The project, known as A Better Red, is celebrated with giveaways and festivities scheduled for Aug. 28 at various locations including the Beaverton Transit Center and Orenco MAX stations.
Simultaneously, the public transportation outfit has adjusted its overall network. According to Oregon Live, other major changes encompass the transition of late-night MAX service to bus routes, the introduction of two new bus lines, and the expansion of existing lines to improve frequency. Riding the wave of urban evolution, TriMet hopes these adaptations will ensure smoother travels for its patrons.
In addition to the route expansions, about 550 bus stops have been upgraded with new signage across the region. With a careful pruning of its services, TriMet also discontinued three bus lines that were underused, mainly due to their routes overlapping with more heavily utilized lines. This strategic alteration aims to streamline the transportation grid and enhance overall efficiency.
Community reception to the changes has been mixed, with some travelers embracing the longer range of their daily commutes, while others lament the loss of the late-night light rail service, once a staple after the midnight hour.
