The Oakland Police Department has made two arrests in connection with a recent spate of violence that left two individuals dead and two critically injured. The officials took suspects into custody yesterday after a shooting that unfolded in broad daylight last Saturday on the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue. This area has seen its share of dispatch calls for gun violence.
On the day of the incident, OPD officers were prompted to the scene by a ShotSpotter activation and subsequent notifications of a shooting. They arrived to find four victims with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, their identities withheld until families were notified. According to the information released by the Oakland Police Department, the two other victims were taken to nearby hospitals, where they remain in critical condition.
The investigation so far has revealed that the incident began with a verbal confrontation that tragically escalated when one individual brandished a firearm and sprayed rounds at those involved. Following the attack, the suspected gunman fled in a vehicle. Witness testimonies and forensic evidence collected by the OPD Homicide Section are expected to play a pivotal role in the ongoing case as it moves toward prosecution.
The case is set to be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's office, where further legal proceedings will ensue. Community members with any information regarding the incident have been urged to step forward and contact the OPD Homicide Section at (510)238-3821.
