Two children sustained minor injuries Thursday morning when a car barreled into the Davy Dance Academy in Anne Arundel County, officials said. The vehicle, a black Mercedes, was reportedly attempting to park but continued forward, striking the curb before crashing into the building while dance students were inside, as reported by CBS News Baltimore.
Officers responded to the 911 call at approximately 8:47 a.m., with police providing details of the event. Two minor students suffered injuries due to the shattered glass and were transported to Anne Arundel County Medical Center, according to KRDO News. The driver of the ill-fated vehicle was uninjured in the mishap. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
The crash left caution tape, bricks, and broken glass littering the front of the dance studio in Cape St. Claire. A nearby business owner, Sean Becker, whose law office experienced a similar accident in March of 2023 when an elderly driver crashed into it, said, "Anytime that somebody is hurt, that's a lot harder to deal with," in a statement reported by CBS News Baltimore. He drew parallels to previous incidents, including another crash a few months prior at the Dunkin' located down the strip.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Inspections and Permits has since declared the dance studio unsafe for occupation. In the meantime, the Davy Dance Academy reached out to its community via social media, thanking everyone for their kind words, visits, and texts.
