Early Sunday morning, a head-on collision on Interstate 20 in Tye claimed the lives of two drivers, causing subsequent impacts involving four vehicles. According to Fox San Antonio, the incident began when a silver Toyota sedan was spotted by Tye police entering an off-ramp in the wrong direction, accelerating into oncoming traffic despite attempts by officers to gain the driver's attention.
The Tye Police, conducting a traffic stop prior to the incident, witnessed the Toyota sedan's fatal maneuver around 2:45 a.m. and the ensuing head-on collision with a Dodge Ram; both drivers perished at the scene, as reported by Big Country Homepage. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures for the Dodge Ram driver but were unsuccessful, even as the crash quickly escalated with an 18-wheeler colliding with the now-disabled Dodge Ram, culminating in a chaotic spread of wreckage that affected another bystander vehicle.
An ongoing investigation into the crash by Tye Police aims to dissect the sequence of the tragic events, with preliminary assessments by the authorities suggesting that alcohol may have been a factor, though they are awaiting blood test results to confirm this aspect of the case.
