Two individuals were hospitalized following a collision on I-695 in Baltimore County, where an unloaded tractor-trailer struck a pickup truck with an attached car hauler trailer. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 pm on Monday, resulted in a significant disruption of traffic, particularly affecting the outer loop of I-695 prior to the I-83 interchange, as reported by WMAR-2 News.
According to WMAR-2 News, the tractor-trailer, for reasons still undetermined, veered off its trajectory and collided with the stationary pickup truck, which was positioned on the right shoulder of the highway. The Maryland State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The aftermath of the collision prompted lane closures and prolonged traffic issues along the affected stretch of I-695. The Maryland State Highway Administration later announced that all lanes had been reopened, yet the backup had already caused significant delays for motorists in the area.
Further reporting by CBS Baltimore included confirmation that two people were transported to the hospital due to the injuries they sustained in the crash. State officials have urged drivers to exercise caution when passing through the site of the earlier lane closures.
