Two men were wounded, one critically, in a shooting that unfolded Wednesday night in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, police have reported. At around 8:30 p.m., a 20-year-old male found himself suddenly surrounded by several individuals wielding handguns while on the 7800 block of South Colfax Avenue. According to the Chicago Tribune, the assailants demanded the young man's belongings and upon shooting him in the right leg, made off with his property. The young man was later taken to UChicago Medicine where he was reported to be in stable condition.
In a strangely coincidental turn of events, at the same location, police were alerted to another shooting, desperately requiring their attention. Found with multiple gunshot wounds to the body, a 35-year-old man was also rushed to the same hospital. Lying in the same block, the critical nature of his injuries propelled him to where his condition remains grievous, as Fox 32 Chicago details. Investigations into whether the two incidents are connected is ongoing, and at this point, the link between them, if any, is not known.
Calls to the Chicago Police Department confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection to the shootings. Area Two detectives are currently handling the investigation, as per FOX 32 Chiago.
