Two individuals have been apprehended in Montgomery County as part of an ongoing crackdown on vehicle thefts plaguing the area. In a detailed release by the Montgomery County Department of Police, 19-year-old DeJuan Jenifer of Hyattsville and 20-year-old Makiya Donohue of Silver Spring were arrested following the discovery of Jenifer in what was a 2020 Kia Sportage with Florida plates, recently reported stolen from Washington, D.C.
Attempting to get into the stolen vehicle when officers arrived, Donohue was apprehended along with Jenifer. However, Jenifer's bid to escape by slamming the car into reverse ended swiftly, with the Kia colliding into an Amazon locker, as detailed by the County's report. Taken into custody without the escalation of violence, both suspects are now being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
The investigation revealed a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun on the driver's seat, where Jenifer had been sitting. Jenifer, who was already out on bond for similar charges from a June 24 arrest, faces serious charges including motor vehicle theft and firearm offenses. Donohue, found trying to enter the stolen car and with outstanding warrants, is also charged with motor vehicle theft and related offenses.
Jenifer and Donohue were out on bond when arrested again, showing ongoing auto theft problems. They are being held without bond. The car with Jenifer was found early in the morning by Auto Crime Enforcement officers.
