Authorities in Northwest Washington D.C. have detained two individuals, Senetra Ann Partee and Wilber Gilbert Carpenter III, on allegations of distributing crack cocaine, following community tip-offs about suspicious activities. The Metropolitan Police Department apprehended the suspects on Wednesday, in an operation stemming from specific neighborhood concerns. The MPD released a statement detailing the arrests on their official website, which noted that the takedown occurred in the 1300 block of Perry Place, Northwest at around 12:18 p.m. on August 7.
Partee, 55, and Carpenter, 56, who is currently without a fixed address, are both facing charges related to the distribution of a controlled substance; these charges stem directly from the sale of crack cocaine, an ongoing plague in the community despite efforts to curb its presence, the police, in their effort to crack down on drug-related offenses, stated this is a direct response to mounting concerns by local residents. Carpenter is additionally facing a charge for possessing the intent to distribute the illegal drug. Details provided by MPD's press release point to a concerted push by law enforcement to address the drug issues afflicting the area.
While the legal proceedings for Partee and Carpenter are still forthcoming, the MPD's message is clear: drug distribution will not be tolerated in the capital's neighborhoods.
