The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is inviting public feedback on potential changes to the state's fishing regulations for the 2025-26 season. This call for input, as detailed on the TWRA website, provides an avenue for fishers and conservationists alike to voice their opinions on how the state's aquatic resources should be managed moving forward.
Utilizing various techniques, TWRA Fisheries personnel are actively involved in the science of maintaining healthy fish populations—from data collection about fish density and growth to habitat improvement for the benefit of aquatic species. Alongside these efforts, the TWRA propagates and stocks numerous fish species to enrich the angling experience in the state. These comprehensive fishery management practices are instrumental in the agency's regulation-setting process, as stated on their website.
As part of the public engagement process, anglers are encouraged to provide feedback that will be considered alongside fishery independent assessments. This collaboration aims to craft strategies and regulations that not only ensure the sustainable management of Tennessee’s fish resources but also accommodate a diverse angling public. Inputs from the community are seen as vital in achieving this balance.
Tennesseans looking to submit their views have from Friday, Aug 16, 2024, through Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, to do so. After the public comment period closes, proposed regulatory changes will be presented at a meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission in early 2025. Following this presentation, another public comment period will be open regarding the proposed changes. The regulations that are approved will take effect starting Aug. 1, 2025. Comments can be submitted through the link provided by the TWRA here.
