The University of Tennessee, Knoxville's landscape is set to be transformed with the commencement of construction on a new building for the Haslam College of Business. As reported by WATE, the campus broke ground yesterday for the $227-million facility designed to support the collegiate body's significant growth. Slated to open in fall 2027, the structure will sprawl across 243,800 square feet, substantially adding to the university's academic infrastructure.

Responding to a need driven by a rapidly expanding student body, the new edifice is expected to thoroughly meet more than 10,000 students, faculty, staff, and guests weekly. The significant uptick in Haslam's College's popularity is evidenced by a more than 100% spike in undergraduate enrollment during the last decade, jumping from around 3,800 students to 9,000, per WBIR.

The planned establishment will not only house seven academic departments and graduate and executive education programs but also aim to foster collaboration between students and industry figures. "This new building is a part of a physical transformation happening across campus — a transformation that reflects the progress we’re seeing across our university," UT Chancellor Donde Plowman said, as per UT Knoxville's news release.

Financing for the project has been a collaborative effort. According to UT Knoxville's news release, the state and the university collectively fund 55% of the costs. Brian Broyles, UT's senior vice chancellor for advancement, emphasized the pivotal role that alumni support plays, stating that the goal is to raise $100 million from philanthropic efforts to materialize the vision. The projected educational hub will also feature research laboratories, 18 classrooms, and other state-of-the-art facilities.
