According to a statement from the Vallejo Police Department on their Facebook page, officers who were performing routine patrols near Harbor Way and Mare Island Way heard the gunfire at approximately 1:02 A.M. on August 17. In searching for the source, police officers discovered that their patrol vehicle had been hit by at least one bullet.
The department, while continuing to investigate the violent episode, issued a mutual aid request that was promptly met by surrounding agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and Air Operations Unit, the Benicia Police Department, the Solano County Sheriff's Office, and the American Canyon Police Department. Running towards the direction of the gunshots, none of the officers were reported harmed. Vallejo Police Department expressed appreciation for the extensive and coordinated aid received.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and motives remain undetermined in relation to the shooting.
