Good news for Wake County motorists worried about safety at notorious intersections: a significant change is coming to improve conditions at a local crossroads. According to an announcement made on the N.C. Department of Transportation's website, if the weather cooperates, contractors plan to implement an all-way stop at the intersection of Riley Hill Road and Lizard Lick Road. Work is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning.
The upgrade will not only involve the installation of new traffic signs but also fresh pavement markings on Riley Hill Road. This location has a history of traffic issues, so it's believed that the new stop signs will encourage cars to slow down, lessening the likelihood of crashes and their associated anxiety. As per statistics pulled by the department, all-way stops have a track record of dropping fatal and injury crashes by 77 percent. While construction zones can be frustrating, authorities urge drivers to be cautious, follow new signs, and slow down. The first few days after a traffic pattern change can be confusing as people adjust. However, new signs and markings aim to make travel smoother and safer for everyone.
