
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington D.C. has disclosed their operations from July 29, through August 5, revealing that detectives and officers have recovered 46 firearms, as part of their ongoing efforts to mitigate armed violence within the district.
This week's recoveries feature a gamut of firearms ranging from a Hi-Point 4595 .45 caliber rifle to ghost guns, indicating not just the diversity of illegal weaponry proliferating the streets but also the tenacious work of the MPD in addressing this issue, although this does not represent the entirety of guns seized in the District during the period a Hi-Point 995 9mm caliber bolt-action rifle was among the various firearms recovered by the officers.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, they outlined several instances of recovery and arrest, highlighting cases that spanned from juveniles apprehended for carrying pistols without a license to adults charged with assault and controlled substance offenses among the individuals arrested was a 15-year-old male juvenile from Southeast, D.C., who was detained for assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol without a license, and other related charges.
One notable report detailed the arrest of a 28-year-old individual named Darrian Tabbs, who was charged with a broad spectrum of offenses, including felon in possession, simple assault, and endangerment of a firearm; he was also found with a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm firearm and this incident, as with the others documented, underscores the intricate challenges law enforcement faces daily in the battle against illegal firearms.
