Heads up to drivers planning to navigate through Kent this weekend: you might want to plot a different course. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), there's a complete shutdown of southbound State Route 167 on the books, running from Friday, Aug. 16 to the pre-dawn hours of Monday, Aug. 19. Working overtime for the SR 167 Corridor Improvements Project are contractor crews, who will undertake paving and bridge work during this period.

Specifically, the southbound lanes of SR 167 will be off-limits from SR 516 to South 277th Street starting 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday morning, as per the WSDOT. Included in the shutdown, the on-ramp to southbound SR 167 from SR 516 and the southbound off-ramp to South 277th Street will also be closed.

Every effort to ease the congestion will be a collective step toward smoother sailings come Monday. Keep an eye on the WSDOT website for updates, because as everyone knows, the only thing more changeable than the weather is a roadwork schedule.
