Interstate cooperation between Mississippi and Tennessee law enforcement led to the apprehension of a woman charged with the especially aggravated kidnapping of a child and aggravated burglary. Regan Kelly, 28, was arrested after her cell phone was tracked to Grenada County, Mississippi, nearly 100 miles from Shelby County, Tennessee, where the warrant for her arrest originated, according to WREG.
Kelly's arrest by Grenada County deputies was the culmination of a multi-agency effort; after pinging her cell phone, authorities located her on Carpenter Road. The alleged kidnapped child was found unharmed at the residence with Kelly, along with another child, as reported by Darkhorse Press. Both children were quickly taken into protective care and eventually placed safely back with their legal guardians. To expedite these efforts, Child Protective Services were also involved in the process.
The cooperation of multiple law enforcement entities, including the Grenada County Sheriff's Office, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Millington Police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and Grenada Police was integral to Kelly's capture. This collaborative approach was crucial in securing the safety of the children involved and ensuring the swift execution of justice across state lines.
According to information shared by Therese Apel via social media, Kelly was quickly transported to the Grenada County Jail post-arrest and has since been extradited to Tennessee, where she is currently held on a $50,000 bond. While the legal proceedings remain ongoing, the primary concern remains the well-being of the children, whose quick recovery and return to their guardians has no doubt provided some semblance of relief amid a deeply distressing situation.
