A domestic dispute in St. Cloud escalated into a fatal shooting on Saturday, ending with one woman dead and a man in custody after surrendering to authorities. The St. Cloud Police Department responded to emergency calls that were first reported at 6:41 p.m. from a residence on Nottel Drive in the Hanover Lake subdivision. According to ClickOrlando, officers were met with gunfire upon arrival but chose not to return fire and instead deployed a drone to safely survey the scene.
The standoff concluded after a crisis negotiator was able to successfully talk the suspect into surrendering. St. Cloud police Chief Douglas Goerke stated, as per the AroundOsceola report, "The crime that occurred here tonight is tragic and senseless." Officers discovered the woman's body in a bathroom after entering the residence. The initial calls to emergency services were made by one of the children of both the victim and the accused after the father reportedly shot the mother.
According to AroundOsceola, Two children who were present in the home, an adult and a juvenile, managed to flee without any physical harm. St. Cloud police emphasized the loss experienced by the children and have pledged to support them. Chief Goerke expressed his condolences, adding, "Our hearts go out to the children who lost their parents here tonight. We will be working with them to get the resources they will need to cope with what happened here."
As the investigation proceeds actively, no further details have been released to the public regarding the names of those involved.
