The Worcester Police Department is currently probing a string of armed robberies targeting pizza delivery drivers across the city. According to the official press release, there have been three reported instances this month, each involving a threat of violence with a firearm.
The series of incidents began on August 12, 2024, on Lund Street. A driver, upon reaching his delivery destination early in the morning, was accosted by two male individuals. When the driver was in the process of giving them change, "one of the suspects pulled out a firearm," the driver recounted. The assailants fled with an amount of cash which remains uncounted.
Subsequent to this event, on August 15th just before midnight, another delivery driver faced a similar peril on Doane Street. He was delivering food when two males approached him; one of the culprits asserting himself with a firearm, demanded for the driver’s keys. "The victim complied," as per the press release, resulting in the loss of his vehicle, iPhone, wallet, and a quantity of cash.
The most recent incident occurred on Esther Street on August 18th around 9:50 PM. Mirroring the previous pattern, two males approached the driver, and one produced a firearm. They managed to steal an iPhone and an indeterminable sum of money. Fortunately, each of these confrontations has not resulted in any physical injuries.
Authorities are investigating whether there's a connection between the incidents. "It is unknown if the same suspects were involved in all three armed robberies," the press release notes. With an ongoing investigation, the Worcester Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward, providing various anonymous reporting options such as texting to 274637 with "TIPWPD" followed by the information, or through their website at worcesterma.gov/police.
