Yavapai County Honors Three Veteran Sheriff's Officers for Decades of Service and ValorSource: Yavapai County Sheriff's Office

Yavapai County's Board of Supervisors took time on Wednesday to honor the unwavering commitment of three long-serving members of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO). In a gesture of recognition, Capt Richard Martin, Sgt Brandon Rumpf, and Deputy Oscar Alvarez were acclaimed for their decades of service to the community. "We're very grateful for these men. They have been through good times and tough times, and they are part of why we have first-rate public safety in Yavapai County," Sheriff David Rhodes expressed in a statement published by the agency.

Capt Martin's tenure with YCSO extends back to 1994 when he began as a part-time detention officer, quickly transitioning to full-time duty. His career path saw him rise from patrol deputy to Captain, a position he has held for over three years at the Camp Verde detention facility. Sgt Rumpf's 25 years of service include a wide array of roles from patrol deputy to Narcotics Task Force and Criminal Investigations Bureau assignments. Notably, Sgt Rumpf was honored to recently receive the YCSO Medal of Valor for a daring 2023 rescue amidst gunfire.

Deputy Alvarez has spent over two decades with YCSO, with the unique distinction of having five family members also serving the agency. Starting his career in detention, he has since been integral to operations spanning from patrol duties to engaging actively as a SWAT team member. His commendable actions in the 2011 search and rescue of a young child earned him a Sheriff’s Letter of Commendation.
