Seattle has witnessed a startling event as police apprehended a 12-year-old boy in connection with an attempted carjacking in West Seattle. This arrest, reported by the Seattle Police Department Blotter, follows an incident that occurred on August 30th when patrol officers were called to a scene involving multiple juvenile suspects.
According to the SPD Blotter, the situation unfolded on the 4300 block of Holgate Street at 11:06 A.M., where it was reported that a group of four or five individuals had infiltrated a vehicle with the intent to steal it. A male armed bystander got involved, leading to a confused altercation that resulted in the suspects fleeing, albeit one was accidentally left behind by his accomplices. This individual, a young boy, was later arrested by police for attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
The vehicle's owner discovered the suspect's mid-act, which was then followed by a bystander and witnesses confronting the group. The SPD Blotter notes that during this confrontation, the suspects abandoned the car and subsequently returned to retrieve a cell phone they had left inside. As tensions escalated, a bystander discharged their firearm towards the getaway vehicle of the suspects, firing one or two shots before police arrived on the scene.
Further complicating the events, the armed bystander who fired at the fleeing vehicle was also detained and later booked for Aiming or Discharging a Firearm. He was, however, released from custody at the scene pending further investigation. Evidence collected included the firearm involved and two shell casings. Despite these efforts, officers were unable to locate any other suspects linked to the attempted carjacking.
The ongoing investigation is being handled by detectives from the General Investigations Unit. There has been no update on the status of the 12-year-old since his arrest or any identification of the other suspects who remain at large.
