Following a recent shooting in Houston, authorities have taken 20-year-old Jolun Rodgers into custody, charging him with the murder of 21-year-old Elijah Heyliger. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. on August 25, along 7100 Orville Street, where Heyliger was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased at Ben Taub General Hospital.

According to a news release from the City of Houston, Rodgers was apprehended by Houston Police Department officers after the Homicide Division Sergeants and Detectives, including Sergeant C. Duncan, Detective J. Diaz, V. Nguyen, and A. Hernandez conducted investigations and patrol officers responded to the scene, finding Heyliger downed and emergently conveying their findings back to their division which led to Rodgers' identification and eventual arrest.

The initial description of the shooter was vaguely stated as a black male, but with further investigation, the suspect was explicitly identified as Rodgers, who now faces serious criminal charges in the 185th State District Court. Rodgers' booking photo has been released to the public domain and included in official press materials.

Rodgers was arrested on Wednesday, and there's been no immediate disclosure of any possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
