
An incident that erupted over the weekend has left a San Antonio community reeling after a 7-year-old girl was critically injured during a shooting. As reported by MySA, the alleged shooter, 24-year-old John Alderete, was arrested and charged following the event which also left a 31-year-old man with a non-life-threatening injury.
The shooting occurred at a boxing match viewing party in the Northwest Side of San Antonio. According to details from the San Antonio Express-News, the violence arose after a domestic dispute between the injured man and a 29-year-old woman. The girl, struck in the chest by a bullet, was immediately transported to a local hospital and, according to the police statement, was listed in critical condition. The man sustained a graze from a bullet to his arm.
Alderete was taken into custody by the San Antonio Police Department and subsequently booked into Bexar County Jail yesterday, September 16, a day following the tragic incident. While the condition of the young girl remains undisclosed at this time, the community and families affected await anxiously for news of her recovery.
Police have not yet released information regarding the specifics of the charges laid against Alderete. A swift response from local authorities ensured the alleged perpetrator was apprehended at the scene, as the incident continues to be under investigation.
