The San Marcos Police Department breathed a collective sigh of relief when 91-year-old Robert Veatch, the subject of a Silver Alert issued just hours earlier, was found safe on Thursday afternoon. FOX San Antonio reports that the alert, which mobilized the local community in a concerted search effort, was discontinued at approximately 3:35 p.m. The initial alert was issued under concerns of Veatch's cognitive impairment posing a threat to his health and safety after he was last seen that morning.
According to CBS Austin on Thursday, Veatch, diagnosed with cognitive impairment, was last spotted at around 9:30 a.m. wearing distinctive clothing – a red baseball hat and a red button-up fishing shirt, complemented by blue jeans. Despite the vital details provided, his whereabouts were a mystery with his location last noted on the 1400 Block of Wonder World Dr. in San Marcos.
The urgency of the situation was heightened since Veatch was traveling by vehicle, a white 2013 Toyota Avalon, and law enforcement feared that such a mode of transit could degree the search difficulty exponentially. His Texas license plate, 3RVVH, became a beacon for public vigilance in the hope of swiftly reuniting him with his concerned loved ones before the situation escalated dangerously.
Details surrounding Veatch's discovery have not been widely disclosed, maintaining the elderly man's privacy. The San Marcos Police Department was quick to extend their gratitude towards the community members whose eyes and ears proved instrumental throughout the ordeal and for providing information that ultimately contributed to a positive outcome, as per the reports from CBS Austin.
The San Marcos Police Department, in their statement following the successful operation, encourages ongoing vigilance and the swift reporting of any information that may help in future emergencies.
