Summit County is currently on the lookout for Marc W. Wolfe Jr., an Akron man who allegedly committed a disturbing act of violence against a companion animal live on Facebook earlier this year. FOX8 News reports that Wolfe, who faces charges of animal cruelty following the incident between April and May, failed to appear for his bond revocation hearing yesterday.
Wolfe's absence prompted Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Susan Baker Ross to issue an arrest warrant, giving him a deadline to turn himself in by Monday, September 16, with the trial date pending for October 7. Wolfe not only skipped the hearing but is also accused of repeated violations of his bond terms, which included a prohibition on weapon possession and animal ownership. It's alleged he visited the Summit County Humane Society armed, demanding the return of his other dog. According to human society and court records, Wolfe's disregard is deeply concerning for local authorities.
Nick Browning, CEO of the Humane Society of Summit County, expressed frustration and concern regarding Wolfe's failure to appear in court and his previous behavior at the shelter. FOX8 News quotes him saying, "It's frustrating." Court records, as stated in the coverage by WKYC, show Wolfe was indicted earlier in June on one felony and one misdemeanor count of cruelty to companion animals. The prosecutor's office voices that Wolfe could face incarceration, given the violent nature of the charges.
The case gained additional attention when Wolfe allegedly turned up at the Humane Society with a gun strapped to his hip in defiance of a court order, and measures were taken to confiscate his firearms. The Humane Society's duties to protect these creatures from harm are amplified in light of the accusations against Wolfe, and the society is caught in a difficult position, playing unwanted host to the man's demands and his blatant noncompliance with the court's demands. Cleveland19 News reports that his actions led to a scheduled court hearing yesterday to assess the necessity of taking Wolfe into custody for failing to adhere to bond conditions, a hearing Wolfe missed, triggering the current warrant for his arrest.
