Seattle Seahawks fans and university students across the country are about to experience snappier snack-runs and brisk beer buys, as Amazon unrolls its "Just Walk Out" technology at stadiums and universities nationwide. According to a recent Amazon announcement, the checkout-free technology is launching at more locations than ever before at the start of this NFL season. The Seahawks' Lumen Field is leading the pack with six new Just Walk Out spots, and newcomers like Commanders Field outside Washington D.C. are not far behind with seven.
Amazon's technology is expanding to over 30 university campuses this fall, making it possible for students to grab what they need, like a latte or a laptop charger, and walk out without waiting in line. This technology speeds up the shopping experience, allowing students to get what they want quickly and easily.
The first rolls of the Just Walk Out tech at Lumen Field took flight in 2022 and now, as per FOX13 Seattle's report, the stadium boasts the world's highest number of these game-changer stores in any venue. Pair that with a raft of other fan upgrades including a new public address system, as Seahawks' VP of technology, Chip Suttles, pointed out, and Lumen Field is quickly becoming a techie temple for fans and foodies alike.
"Our new sound system was one part of the largest technical upgrade in Lumen Field’s history, but I feel that it could be the biggest and best enhancement to our stadium to date and it will serve our guests for many years to come," Suttles told GeekWire.
The Seahawks are also tossing a whole new game-day experience at their fans. Alongside the high-tech "Just Walk Out" stores, the "Seahawks Fanovation Project" includes shiny new bowl lighting, LED upgrades, suite renovations, and refreshed premium lounges and club-level spaces. The Seahawks will unveil all these upgrades when they open their season at home against the Denver Broncos. While gearing up for the game-time spectacle, fans equipped with more tech and comfort than ever before in Seattle will descend on Lumen Field this Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT.
