A school bus driver's routine in North Port took an alarming turn earlier today when they discovered ammunition lying on their bus, subsequently prompting local authorities to temporarily lock down the Imagine School campuses. As reported by WFLA, the driver found the ammunition after the morning delivery of students and reacted by alerting school officials.
North Port Police moved quickly to secure the scene, launching an investigation and questioning students about the incident. They also conducted a thorough search of the bus to make sure no additional threats were present. FOX 13 News detailed that the lockdown served as a precautionary measure while the situation was being assessed. Notably, none involved seemed to be harmed.
The lockdown, which encapsulated a tense period for the school community, was not to last indefinitely. By about 10:30 a.m., as ABC Action News documented, police deemed the campuses safe once more, allowing the school day to proceed.
The North Port Police Department has not yet to publicly identify whether the ammunition came from a student or another source.
