Arlington's roadway infrastructure has reached a new milestone with the completion of the Shenandoah Drive rebuild project. According to details shared by the City of Arlington, this significant reconstruction effort began in August 2023 and wrapped up this September, on schedule.
The project, which stretched along Shenandoah Drive from East Timberview Lane to Concord Drive, and on Custer Street from South Collins Street to Shenandoah Drive, was realized thanks to the voter-approved 2018 Street Bond funds, and Water and Sanitary Sewer Renewal funds. Residents who've contended with the construction will now see the fruits of this labor, in newly cast concrete roadways, flanked by sidewalks, and glowing under new streetlights.
As per the official statement released by the Public Works Department, the improvements signify not just a response to worn infrastructure, but also a commitment to enhancing regional mobility, and to championing the spirit of great neighborhoods. The department highlighted the specific enhancements which include, rebuilding the asphalt roadway to concrete roadway with sidewalk improvements, installing new streetlights, rebuilding driveways to right of way, and sanitary sewer and water renewals.
Information on these voter-driven changes can be garnered through an online map of the project location provided by the City of Arlington.
