Drivers in Arlington should brace for a series of lane reductions and ramp closures as part of the ongoing $2.1 billion Southeast Connector Project, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel efficiency. According to the City of Arlington's latest update, the construction will affect multiple highways and interchanges throughout the project, which is set to continue through 2027. Commuters can anticipate alterations to their routes and are advised to seek alternative roads or allow extra travel time.
Among the key disruptions, the eastbound I-20 interchange ramp to southbound US 287 will be closed from 9 p.m. Sept. 27 through 9 a.m. Sept. 29, forcing eastbound I-20 traffic to detour via US 287 and Little Road towards Green Oaks Boulevard. The Business 287 entrance ramp to I-820 is also slated to shut from 9 p.m. Sept. 29 to 6 a.m. Oct. 6, with drivers redirected to Sun Valley Drive. Motorists will notice reduced speed limits to 55 mph throughout the corridor to ensure the safety of the workers and drivers.
Travelers must also heed single-lane restrictions on northbound US 287 at Sublett Road through Oct. 12 and on northbound I-820 between Ramey Ave. and Rosedale St. until Oct. 6. Additionally, westbound I-20 will witness a highway closure at I-820 through Sept. 28, limiting travel between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Information about these changes and any updates due to weather or scheduling shifts can be found on the project's website.
