The Arlington County Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that unfolded in the Columbia Heights neighborhood on September 2. According to the preliminary findings, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Ross Street around 1:56 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire, according to Arlington County's news release.
Running from the scene, one group was detained by responding officers in the 1300 block of S. Scott Street. The incident reportedly began with a verbal altercation between two groups that escalated when individuals brandished and used firearms. Amidst the chaos, no injuries were reported despite the discharge of weapons. A firearm was later recovered during the investigation, adding to the weight of the case.
The authorities have arrested Patrick Nya, 26, who has been charged with multiple offenses. Nya, reportedly of no fixed address, faces charges of Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Attempted Shooting Missiles at an Occupied Vehicle.
The second group involved, with a vehicle, managed to flee the scene before police arrival. Officials are urging anyone possessing information pertinent to this incident to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
