Early this morning, a smoke shop in Rainier Valley became the scene of a brazen armed robbery and shooting, sparking an intense investigation by Seattle police. According to a Seattle Police Department Blotter report, the incident occurred at 2:26 a.m. in the 6300 block of Rainier Avenue South. Patrol officers were dispatched following a commercial burglary alarm and additional reports of automatic gunfire.
The suspects used their vehicle to force entry into the store, inflicting significant damage and making off with merchandise valued at thousands of dollars. The store owner, upon being alerted by phone, rushed to the scene and was met with gunfire from the perpetrators, resulting in his vehicle being struck several times. In self-defense, the owner fired back before the suspects fled in three separate vehicles.
A subsequent police chase led to one of the suspect's vehicles crashing on the South Albro Place and I-5 overpass. The occupants managed to evade capture by fleeing the crash site. Despite deploying a K9 team to trace any leads from the abandoned vehicle, the pursuit yielded no arrests; the vehicle has since been taken to the processing room for further examination.
Police secured the affected areas and ushered in detectives to gather evidence. From the crime scene, officers said, "They collected 35 shell casings and additional ballistic, latent print, and video evidence," as detailed by the Seattle Police Department. The Robbery Unit detectives have now taken the helm of this unsettling case.
