An Atlanta man has been sentenced to life without parole for a murder that took place in 2019, according to the Dekalb County District Attorney's office. Dequan Trimell King, 30, was found guilty of numerous charges, including Malice Murder and Felony Murder, in connection to the killing of Brandon McCrary. The verdict was delivered on August 29, as reported by the DeKalb County District Attorney's office.
The incident occurred at the victim's apartment in the 4000 block of Waldrop Place in unincorporated Decatur. Police responded to a call reporting an armed robbery gone violent, at around 7:30 p.m. Seven days later, the jury would hear how King, with the help of a co-defendant and additional suspects, forced his way into McCrary's home where a struggle ensued, and McCrary was fatally shot.
Three witnesses were present during the incident, who then called 911 and provided testimony that helped convict King. Following the guilty verdict, Senior Judge David B. Irwin, imposed the life sentence without the possibility of parole. The prosecution of the case fell to the Homicide and Gangs Unit of the DA's office, with the original investigation led by DeKalb County Police Department Det. Kershaw.
In a related case, Co-Defendant Daizona Allen, 25, faces similar charges including Malice Murder, and is awaiting trial while incarcerated. Her indictment came on August 2, 2021, indicating the broader scope of the criminal actions surrounding McCrary’s death. King's life sentence marks a conclusion to one part of this tragic episode, while Allen's forthcoming proceedings promise to extend the narrative of accountability and justice, in the eyes of the court.
