According to a press release from the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a call for a welfare check at 5705 Diehl Trail on Tuesday, September 24, at around 12:16 p.m. The call was made by a relative concerned for her niece and her niece's husband after being unable to reach them.
The concerned family member had returned to the house after alerting the authorities to find the couple's vehicle outside and yet received no response from within the residence. APD officers found Hannah Kang and Youree Kang dead at the scene when they entered the home at approximately 2:33 p.m., with the preliminary investigation suggesting a grim sequence where Youree Kang killed his wife, Hannah, and then himself. This unfortunate event marks the city's 46th homicide case for the year.
