Media briefing location and time will be released after the initial investigation has concluded.
The grim circumstances under which the bodies were found indicated a case of severe violence and although the police have provided few details, they have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public, while neighbors and relatives of those involved gathered in a scene marred by loss and disbelief and the familiar tableau of police tapes marking the perimeter of tragedy as observed by FOX 7 Austin.
APD's Corporal Matthew Nonweiler shared during a news conference that the responding officers upon arrival "made entry to do that welfare check and they located two obviously deceased individuals with multiple trauma wounds incompatible with life." The identities of the victims and the exact causes of their deaths have not been disclosed; however, the department has classified the incident as Austin's 44th and 45th homicides of the year 2024, and a "person of interest" who is being interviewed by detectives is in the folds of police custody, as per details from KXAN.
Inquiries from community members and the press persist, but Austin police maintain discretion on the unfolding case, opting not to reveal further information about the victims nor about the person of interest whose connection to the incident is still under investigation, meanwhile, an attorney representing the family of the deceased declined to issue any statement at this time, causing a lull in information that stands contrast to the urgency of a community's yearning for answers.
